A Silent Wave

I relocated to Pen in the year 2000. Some of my friends believed that this was driving my life in reverse gear. Education and healthcare were the biggest challenges, they thought. We tackled the first challenge by simply trusting our conviction that education is not restricted to schooling. We focused on preventive health to take care of the second. In the long run, both these strategies yielded great dividends. Both our kids got admissions on merit to some of the best Colleges after their HSc. Over the last 2 decades, the educational landscape has transformed. It was big news when a student from Pen got admission to VJTI or GS Medical or other such institutions. However, over the last few years, at least a few students now routinely make it to the IITs and other premier colleges! Underlying causes for this phenomenon are: - Higher disposable income - Better Internet Connectivity/Edutech - Better awareness of opportunities/career guidance What is happening in Pen ought to be happening in small towns all over India. Barring exceptions like Zoho(https://lnkd.in/dfnJ7Sdi), other businesses are not consciously strategizing to leverage this shift. Subodh July 12, 2022
